MANAGEMENT PLAN

The Historic Centre Bureau - UNESCO World Heritage has developed a Management Plan which was approved by the Municipal Council on 7th of March 2006. The final objective of the Plan can be summarized as to "guarantee the site's identification, safeguarding, conservation, development and transmission to future generations"; the expectations and possibilities connected with this new instrument are even more interesting. In fact, it identifies not only critical aspects of the site, but also investigates the opportunities the measures of preservation and valorization have for the growth of the community and as consequences for the local development. Furthermore, it is supposed to be an instrument able to develop, by incorporating updates and modifications with altering circumstances and changes in the ambience concerned.

With the law 77 of February 20th, 2006 , that envisions "special measures for preservation and utilization of Italian sites of cultural, landscape and envoironmental interest, inscribed on the World Heritage List and thus placed under UNESCO's protection", the Italian juridical order has imposed the obligation to establish and adopt a Management Plan for all sites inscribed on the List and has provided special measures for their conservation and development.

On the occasion of the 4th National Conference of UNESCO sites, held in Syracuse from the 10th to the 12th of March 2006, a video on the Management Plan of the Historic Centre of Florence was realized that describes the potential of this new management instrument as well as the principal plan of actions for the site. The video, with texts by Laura Carsillo and original music by Lorenzo Piggici, offers impressive images of the Historic Centre of Florence.

With the preliminary works on the formulation of the Management Plan for the Historic Centre of Florence a working group was established, Table for the Historic Centre, that assembled the representatives of the Offices for the Preservation of Monuments as well as the Heads of division of the various sectors within the municipal administration. The riunions of the Table for the Historic Centre have not only enabled the elaboration and adoption of the Management Plan, but have also encouraged the dialogue on important projects and interventions for the Historic Centre by fostering the adoption of common solutions.
