Many italian and european public libraries are developing projects and experiences which can help the diffusion of reading. The European Union has acknowledged the transnational value of these experiences and entrusted Isolotto Public Library with the task of elaborating new methods of introducing new work patterns in order to assure to every citizen the right to read. >From the cooperation among various european librarian partners, and through the "Socrates Program for Adult Education", we shall. work out new methods for the spreading of reading among new possible readers.

Socrates is an active programme conceived by the European Community, whose aim is cooperation in the field of education. It is a part of a wider strategy meant to promote the concept of lifelong learning. A constant and continuous learning is important to keep in touch with the ever-changing forms of culture deriving from technological development, to fight the decline of knowledge and to let education help the intellectual growth and development of our people.
